After a couple of months of throat clearing and a round of antibiotics, our pediatrician and
ENT recommended a
tonsillectomy and that Bryce's
anoids be removed. This trip to the surgery center was definitely different than the previous two. Bryce had already had tubes placed in his ears twice.
His awareness of hospitals, surgery, and the fact that there would be some pain involved was very clear in his mind. He kept asking "Are they going to use something sharp to get my tonsils out?" The surgeon visited with us right before the surgery and he asked that very question. Before the surgeon could answer I gave him the answer I had been giving Bryce all week, "He's going to use his fingers and pluck them right out and it's going to tickle!!" Of course I would tickle him to make him smile. It was the only answer he liked.
The nurse wheeled him back to the surgery room with little resistance. He did much better waking out of the anesthesia this time also. Instead of screaming and crying and trying to scratch my eyes out, he woke up like he was coming out of a deep sleep. They said he threw up in the recovery room and that they were trying to balance the pain and anti-nausea meds at that time. Roughly an hour later we were home.
As of today, 24 hours later Bryce's surgery, he decided he doesn't want to eat anything solid. What's good is that he's halfway through two boxes of popsicles. He also loves the powerade his Daddy brought home from work. We watched the Buckeyes win their first game vs. Akron. Yea!! I did let Bryce play in the neighbors baby pool for 1o minutes with strict rules of no running or quick movements. I'm not sure how I am going to keep him down for two weeks!? He will go back to school possibly late this next week. No recess or gym for two weeks!? Good luck Oak Creek with that! : )

Surgery isn't so bad....it's like a party when you get home.

The gifts rock!
Teagan thinks it's his birthday because of the gifts and balloons.
